Projects, Progress, and Persistence: Update

Stray from the Path – Eavesdropper (for those who like music that punches them in the ears)
Nothing but Thieves – Welcome to the DCC (That bassline, tho)

Hello, dear reader!
As I expected, regularly posting updates can be a somewhat tricky task, BUT I CAN EXPLAIN! and only parts of my explanation will mildly sound like an excuse, I assure you.

A lot has been going on lately, and I’m very grateful that it is mostly positive. Recording has gone very well for my debut narration of Jane Collins‘ wonderful debut book The 6th Exit Point (we’re just two crazy kids finding our way in this literary world), and we are working hard on the final edits with the expectation of an IMMINENT release. I’m sure I will be posting all over my socials when it drops, so don’t worry about missing it.

But what can you expect if you do listen, I hear you cry through the ether, Thank you for asking, In this adventure, we join Archie’s intriguing exploration into what happens to the soul during temporary unconsciousness, a quest that takes a devastating personal turn. In my opinion (and Jane seems to agree) my narration captures the blend of scientific curiosity and profound emotional stakes, drawing you into a story that fans of Matt Haig and Mitch Albom will find deeply resonant. By the end of the novel we will find out just how far Archie is willing to go to save his family!

This is been taking up a lot of my time and I have learned a lot from the process. A great deal of which I will be taking with me as I begin to record my revised chapters of The Vanguard. I have an urge to release the revised Chapter 1 very soon, but factors I will examine a little later are causing a delay. In the time I don’t have access to my microphone, I’m also in the process of writing new chapters! After reading through my revisions, I’m very happy with what I’ve created so far, a fact I found very surprising. I think it’s helped me find a passion for continuing to write and, ultimately, share it with you.

That all being said, it hasn’t been without its share of challenges (here is where the mild excuses begin!). As someone with ADHD, I can often find it difficult to maintain consistency with projects. Possibly something that seems a little unbelievable to people who have seen my minis. I think the main difference is that with a mini you are always moving forwards, where writing requires you to go back and edit, a process that can be quite laborious. But even then, finding motivation do things I actually enjoy can be just as elusive – an incredibly frustrating issue many people with ADHD experience. This, coupled with elements such as rejection sensitivity dysphoria can make being creative and sharing that work with others a somewhat harrowing experience.

Being separated from my paints is also having a bit of an effect. I’m currently caught in a limbo between the UK and Denmark which will end soon, but it means my life and my possessions are currently split between the two countries. As such, I’m unable to hyperfocus on painting and instead have been hyperfocused on Monster Hunter Rise… There’s always more gear to craft and bigger beasties to beat. It’s enjoyment, but the accompanying guilt of “wasting time” is ever-present. There are strategies to manage these things, of course. For example, I find body-doubling is particularly effective for me. If I know someone else is working or being productive, it helps me stay focused on productive and necessary tasks, though I’m aware this won’t work for everyone.

All of that to say, things can be very difficult at times. Navigating life and your own brain can sometimes seem like an impossible tasks, but there are great rewards for persistence. I’m looking ahead with optimism and I look forward to sharing my work with you soon.

Now, as you may have picked up from the above, I thrive on positive feedback and excitement. So, to aid me with that, why not leave a comment or come and find me at my socials? I’m always happy to have a chat about tabletop games, books, music, etc. Engagement will always encourage me to churn out more content and be creative.
