Ever notice how life tends to get in the way of what you really want to do?
This has been the case for me recently as I’ve been coming to terms with balancing my creative life with the obligations of having a new job.
My free time has been sadly restricted, and I’m not able to put as much time into things as I’d like. However, I’m still moving on, and I thought I’d give a general update on what I’ve been up to!
The Really Bard Ideas Podcast
Both episodes 8 and 9 have been released, but I haven’t announced that here. Terrible marketing on my part!
Session 7 – You are the Weakest Link. Goodbye.
Episode 8 – BDE: Bandits? Druidic Emergency!
In this episode, the party have been called to the aid of the druidic circle of Mirkwood, the circle to which Trick and Jezebel belong. Here, they meet a new player-character and delve into both the central plot and a recently unearthed tomb.
Episode 9 – Ice, Ice, baby.
Following the adventure in the tomb, the party begins to travel back to Magnimmar. On the way, they bump into some individuals who have been sent to investigate a nearby village that is having trouble with its water supply. This leads to reunification and an unexpected introduction to plane-hopping.
I’m very excited to record the next section of the campaign. A lot of stuff is about to happen in the next couple of sessions that the players (for better or worse) will always remember! I’ve also recently acquired some new recording equipment, so the sound quality will be much improved!
Session 10 – You only live twice.
Writing
I’ve been attempting to flesh out the mythos of Esthia with more short stories.
The first focuses on Suuri, the god of the moon and his dualistic nature. Though tasked with the defence of Esthia and betrothed to Iphenia, goddess of the sun, Suuristruggles to come to terms with his relationship with the goddess of thieves, Refia.
The second explores how magic came to be used by humans following the story of Nishtae. Now goddess of magic, Nishtae was once the first human to experience the power of the Rhoki, elevating her to divinity and allowing her to create the rules which govern the way humanity is able to access them.
However, I’ve found my attention completely captured by writing the beginnings of my intended serial.
We’ll be following Eyde, a zoologist freshly arrived in the city of Volgorne, an enormous metropolis built into the side of a mountain. This will be a much larger body of work than any of my writing so far. I’m intending to write about 100, 000 words for each ‘book’ and I can see the story taking shape in the first few chapters that I’ve written.
Accompanying this, I intend to provide audio files of me narrating these chapters, and I’m considering putting these recordings on my ko-fi page and charging a small amount for each one for those who would be interested. However, this idea is still in its infancy.
Painting
For the last couple of weeks, I have been streaming miniature-painting sessions on Twitch!

I’ve had a lot of fun chatting to people who’ve come to watch me paint. I’ve given general advice on various techniques and narrating what I’m doing as I go along, but the real fun has come from interacting with people in the chat.
I’ve taken suggestions on colours for my first few models and we’re close to completion with this one:

As things settle down and I figure out a routine, posts will become more regular once more. Until then, I hope you’re enjoying what I’m putting out there. I’d love to hear your comments either here or on Twitter @BardReally.
